The avatar’s theft is the most common and not so problematic way of stalking. The only problematic case when someone steals an account is when the thief deletes your items from your inventory. Another way to bother someone is to type him every single moment he logs in. It’s challenging, so it rarely happens, but if someone starts to annoy in this way, you have to mute him. How? Open his profile and click on “mute.” In this way, if the person writes to you, you don’t read what he wrote to you, but he receives a message that you muted him. Easy, open the preferences tab, so CTRL+P, and open the privacy settings. Another way to bother someone is by creating a false profile with the display name of the target and fill the profile with false and offensive information about him. In some cases, the stalker starts to create groups to offend the target and invites people who are friends or known by the victim. How do you deal with a stalker that knows where you live in SL and your friends and just constantly bothers you? You could say move but I can’t, I paid for my land well in advance and it’s an expensive residential area in SL. I have this stalker that won’t leave me alone, blocking him from my parcel does nothing and he just makes alternate accounts to harass my friends and watch my virtual home. It’s gotten to the point I feel frightened and traumatized. I’ve tried to contact linden lab but they do nothing to help. I feel like this needs to be addressed in SL. We need better tools to deal with these kinds of people especially when it starts to feel very wrong and dangerous. This person loves that they can’t be touched in SL and it’s depressing to me. I don’t want to start over, I have spent more money than the average person on my account and I also have a business I’m working on. It’s sad how anyone who answers this will give an answer the stalker wants to hear – that I’m screwed and helpless thanks to LL and I have to spend money on things I can’t get again anyway to escape something that isn’t my fault.
Firstly: don’t escape. Keep your identity, your business and your SL as it is. Keep in mind that the stalker wants you to be afraid and depressed. The stalker has won when he meets someone willing to play the role of the victim.As I wrote in this post, you have to ignore what he does. It doesn’t matter to you. And if you think about it, it doesn’t really matter. Don’t give the stalker an importance he doesn’t have. The stalker is always a loser. I was attacked for two years by a bunch of stupid Italians paid by a bored, moneyed noblewoman. I have always stood my ground and sometimes even enjoyed making fun of them. How you feel depends on you, not on them. Remember this and go forward with your head held high.
After that post I made years ago it’s just gotten worse. The scoured second life to find my home that was extremely well hidden. They message me saying I;m the villain, they call me names that definitely define them 100%. They just don’t leave me alone and I’m thinking about escalating this to the news media and putting the lindens in the public eye too. It’s ridiculous how nothing stops this terminator of a stalker and even video games on steam that have about 20-50 hours of replay value protect you better than second life we’re real money is being exchanged. This person has really scared me this weekend, I had a serious panic attack that put me in the ER and my Pc was left in so the following morning I
returned I saw more threats and accusations that I was ignoring them and creepy threatened tones in their wording. Second life needs to do better. I e been stalked by this person for 12-14 years and lindens, bloggers, support people have done nothing to help. People of sl need to get together and speak up. Not act like man-up tough guys on the official forums suggesting to use in client tools that people much smarter then them seem to get around.
