There’s no need to make peace with a caress if you have to become a broken toy again.

Fabrizio Caramagna, Italian writer

It even seems to exceed the obvious when it is stated that violence against women cannot be accepted as an integral part of a society that defines itself as evolved. And yet, every year, November 25 is the day against violence against women. We live in a flourishing age from the point of view of development: technological, scientific, transport, communication, nutrition, and, even, awareness and personal growth. Yet, every year, on November 25, it is necessary to remember that violence against women is not acceptable and must be eradicated from our reality. And it is not a question of redundancy, of something extra. Let’s look at the statistical data relating to femicides in the world. We realize an “undergrowth” of violence and marginalization that seems impossible in a civil society. For those wishing to deepen the statistical data in the world, I recommend visiting the Global Database on Violence against Women (https://evaw-global-database.unwomen.org/en).

Whatever the reader’s point of view on “demonstrations against,” the theme of violence against women cannot be ignored: this is demonstrated by the fact that even in virtual worlds, so-called metaverses, it is taken into serious consideration with the organization of events theme. Among these, 2Lei stands out for its importance and longevity, an organizing committee of themed events that strives to offer quality content in Second Life and Craftword. For those who were not aware of it, Second Life is the Linden Lab platform, born in 2003 as the first metaverse available to anyone interested. Craftword is also a metaverse, but belonging to the Opensimulator category, there is no profit purpose for the creator of the grid, nor for the users who live there.

2Lei Virtual Worlds

The 2Lei Committee organizes artistic events, debates, and meetings in both metaverses in a spirit of collaboration and mutual assistance. The purpose of the events seems to be twofold: remembrance and prevention. The memory of the victims (not only Italian) of violence against women and awareness of the issue give life to greater understanding in women, who are the only ones who can intervene to help themselves from the first signs, are the main topics.

It is now known that statistically, violence against women arises with greater frequency in the family: in the prevalence of cases, it is about partners, ex-boyfriends, husbands, and ex-husbands who are unable to accept the end of a relationship or wish ” correct ”the partner so that she limits her freedoms to please him

A sad phenomenon linked to male insecurities and the legacy of a remote mentality, to the ancestral conception of women considered as an “object” and, as such, must satisfy male needs and expectations.
However, if it is true that the torturer exists, it is also true that the conscious woman can effectively combat violence against her. Indeed this aspect is evident in Western countries, a little less in the realities where, at the legislative level, violence against women is tolerated. Even in that case, the woman’s awareness is essential, but the woman must be understood in a greater sense as a “category” and not as a “single” woman. Only understanding and overall rebellion can change the mentality, avoiding the exposure of individual women who revolt.

Going back to 2Lei, the event designed to combat violence against women, those interested in exploring the events organized in the two metaverses should refer to the Google calendar that I share below.

For those subscribed to Facebook, there is the 2Lei FanPage that remembers the events scheduled near them.

Last night, I attended one of the events organized in Craftword. I had the opportunity to ask Rosanna Galvani, founder and owner of the Metaverse Museum, born in Second Life in 2007 and who also organizes events in Opensim.

Oema: How long have you been in Craft World, and have you been organizing events?

Rosanna: I have been in Craft since 2010, but I was already in Cyberlandia since 2008, I am the founder and owner of the Metaverse Museum, born in Second Life in 2007, and I have been organizing events since 2007, first in SL, later in Craft.

Oema: The collaboration with the 2Lei was born this year or earlier?

Rosanna: It was born this year.

Oema: Do people like to come from Second Life to Craftword, or have you seen resistance?

Rosanna: Well, yes, but not the artists who have become cross-media by now, but the ordinary residents still have a lot of prejudices.

Yesterday I also had the opportunity to visit the various art installations hosted on Craftword, each of which offers a tribute to the delicate theme of gender-based violence.

Rosanna kindly passed me all the details of this installation which are freely downloadable below:

Second Life offers, these days, the Cornelia Augusta exhibition and various events-meetings with themed debates. The Giovanna Cerise exhibition will also be available soon, on a skybox designed for the occasion at Museum Island.

2Lei Second Life

At the end of the article, I leave useful references to virtually reach these events, even those unfamiliar with Second Life and Craftword.

For those who were wondering, the choice of 25 November as a commemorative date is why on this date in 1960, three brave sisters, were brutally murdered Patria, Minerva, and Maria Teresa Mirabal, by principals of the dictator Trujillo, the dictator who subdued the Dominican Republic keeping it in chaos for more than 30 years in one of the bloodiest regimes in Latin America.

Fabrizio Caramagna, scrittore italiano

Oema: Da quanto tempo sei in Craft World e da quanto organizzi eventi?

Rosanna: E’ nata quest’anno.

Oema: Le persone vengono volentieri da Second Life a Craftword o hai visto resistenze?

2Lei in Second Life
