“Art.. is not a decoration. Art is a statement. It should be purchased because it spoke to you, not because it matches your sofa. That piece on your wall tells a story about you and how you uniquely connect to the creative mind.”

“Lee is an amazing supporter of Visual Arts in SL. His generosity launches many artists to the next level. I am deeply honored to be an invited artist and a permanent artist in residence. I can’t thank them enough for including me in such an extensive collection!

Come check out my work and the work of other amazing artists in SL.” – Jennifer Steele/Steele Wilder

Life in wine Country

“I live in one of the most beautiful places in Canada – Niagara Region in the Province of Ontario –
rich in vast green spaces and one of the easiest places for vineyards and orchards to grow. I personally have an insanely thriving veggie garden every year surrounded by peach, apple and pear trees.

The Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve stretches 725km from Lake Ontario to the tip of the Bruce Peninsula. The Niagara Escarpment represents the largest contiguous stretch of primarily forested land in south-central Ontario which entails Great Lakes coastlines, cliff edges, talus slopes, wetlands, woodlands, limestone alvar pavements, oak savannahs, conifer swamps and so much more!

When I moved here, 5 years ago, I welled up with excitement because just standing anywhere in this gorgeous region a painter can find inspiration. What I soon discovered is that Niagara Region is the most supportive area in Canada for aspiring and established artists with art festivals, continuous Art All Calls, and a rich culture of patrons that always support the arts.

This area is thick with historical events and that feeling of spirits teaching us something from days gone by. On just that alone a painter could do years of work. Some people paint the tourists, the tourist spots, the busy hustle and bustle of Niagara Falls downtown or the sweet gorgeous spots found in Niagara On The Lake. Some go deep in the woods and paint the escarpment or one of the many water falls and caves you don’t see doing the “normal” tourist things. I, as an artist, do all of the above 🙂

Usually people want me to talk about how magnificent the Horseshoe Falls are (the Canadian side of Niagara Falls) or the spectacular site of the the largest fresh water whirlpool in North America. But Niagara is so much more. One of the most famous trails in Canada, is the Bruce Trail. I’m a member of the Niagara Chapter of the Bruce Trail Hikers Association and an avid hiker in all seasons.

It’s along the 890km long trail (and all of it’s side trails) that one truly finds their way back to nature, the deep aboriginal presence, and back to the real meaning of life – simple unencumbered joy. In the warmer weather people find me along the trail, in some obscure location, with my picnic basket of wine and various snacks and my french travel easel, listening only to the sound of nature as I lose hours of the day painting en plan air.

No, I’m not a realist painter. Creating pretty landscapes that can be applied to postcards is definitely not how one would describe my style. I capture the mindful moment – the feeling of being there in that moment in that second. The wind blowing through the birch, the autumn colours swirling around you, the hot summer air blowing across the vineyards and forcing you to sit by a cool stream, the frozen water sending a chill through your body as you stare in awe at it’s beauty and power. I hope, in some way I’ve managed to share those moments with you.

I’m always open to questions about technique and such. Please feel free to IM me at any time and thank-you so much for coming to this years tour!”

“The work you see in this gallery is purposely enlarged for emphasis. The work can be changed to any size using the resizer that is included in the work.
